What are some degrees that would be good for entering into a career of game development?
Though right know i’m going for an education in psychology, but i’ve always wanted to go into game development. I just need to know what college degrees or programs would help me get into the programming and/or conceptual area of game design.

Computer graphics or programming. Depends on what you want to do, if you want to actually program the games you need to do a programming degree, although you might find you are interested in creating sound for the games so a music technology or sound technology degree would be more useful.

Look at electronics arts job descriptions to find out what they look for in their employees.

computer science, computer engineering, software engineer

Your best chance is doing computer programming. There will never be enough computer programmers for games.

I guess the degree depends on what school you’re in. Usually it’s just computer science. As long as you learn how to program, I think that’s most of what you need. I have heard that some companies want programmers with an interest in stories and writing. It’s not enough to just write code without being able to contribute to the development of the game from the user’s perspective. If you can get some kind of minor in literature, that would probably help a lot as well.

Most people want to be involved with computer graphics, which is more fun and exciting to do. Unfortunately, you only need very few artists compared to many programmers. I wouldn’t pursue an art degree unless you have a very strong talent for it.

Stick with programming and be prepared to work 60-70 hours a week (after you graduate). Game designers don’t have an easy life.

Computer Science is a good choice

If you can major in Psych and do an minor in CS, that might be a good fit.
