What game development career earns the most money and how much do game engine programmers.?

Game programmers make more money than game designers or artists. There’s a game industry salary survey from 2006 here: http://gamecareerguide.com/features/266/index.php?cid=GCG06_ENDEX3 that gives the averages for each branch of game development. Within game programming, database programmers probably make the most, followed by engine programmers. AI programmers might be well paid for a specific game if they are *highly* qualified in AI programming, but generally AI programmers aren’t paid any higher than other game programmers. I don’t think console programmers are paid more than other types of game programmers, but they are probably in higher demand, especially during the early years of a console cycle.
